1. Explain what is meant when Searle sums up Wittgenstein’s Tractatus as “words get their meaning by their relation to objects.” What sort of relation is this? In what way do words, literally¸derive their meaning from objects? 2. Is Wittgenstein talking about “regular ordinary language” when he says that words have a relationship to one another that corresponds to how things relate to one another? Explain. 3. What is the fundamental unit of meaning for Wittgenstein? Is it single words? Do single words “mean” anything? Is it whole sentences? Explain. 4. “sense” – is sense sayable? Explain referring to Wittgenstein’s picture view of meaning. 5. Explain how talking horses, clearly false, is still a fact, but “horses in the 18th dimension” is not a fact yet not false either! 6. Where does the world end and the ethical, aesthetic, spiritual? Realms begin? What’s the dividing line? Can we legitimately talk about ethics, aesthetics, spiritual matters? Why or why not? Explain.

If you know any of these answers, please help me out. 1. Explain Russel’s Docrtine of types using a sentence example of your own. Given an example of words that “sin against” his doctrine of types. How does for example attribute, relation, complex, fact, truth, etc. “sin against” it? 2. Russell says there are two sorts of knowledge: knowledge of things and knowledge of truths. Then he says, in our reading, that he’ll focus on “knowledge of things and that knowledge of things is divided into two kinds of know ledges: Knowledge by acquaintance and Knowledge by description – what is the difference between the two? Explain by using the example of a “table” – what does knowledge of a table look like when it is had via acquaintance? Description? 3. “Every proposition which we can understand must be composed wholly of constituents with which we are acquainted.” Discuss how this fits in with Russell’s knowledge by acquaintance and description and how we are able to have knowledge of things “beyond the limits of our private experience.” 4. Describe Russell’s view regarding the “value of philosophy.” Specifically how ought we to orient ourselves to our own common sense. Isn’t common sense enough? Explain Russell’s view here and what sort of vision he has for philosophy in our own everyday lives. 5. “Logical constructions, like all other constructions, require materials, and it is time to turn to the positive question , as to what these materials are to be.” What is Russell’s answer here? Explain with an example of your own. 6. Russell’s account of enlightenment philosophy of Berkeley, Leibniz, Descartes – given a something, say a “table” what does Russell say that these modern philosophers claim about the table? Ie, is the table real? Despite their different “answers” what do these various modern philosophers have in common with respect to judgments about the “true nature” of a table? What does this have to do with “appearance” for example? How doe these various philosophers differ? What, for Russell, do they have in common here?

So I graduated with a degree in public relations (should have pursued something else) about a year ago from a univesity in Texas. I've been hunting down jobs with a moderate intensity since February, but I haven't had much luck. I've had a few callbacks for interviews and had a few interviews, but I have no work experience in my field. I've only been a waiter for all my life. So how can I get a good job with no experience? Or I am destined to be looking for one crappy job after another.? Sorry for the negative tone, but I'm pretty disillusioned right now.

To girls, long story short:
My friend has a boyfriend (3 months bf)that she sees about 1 hour a day, and like 1 evening on the weekend. Meanwhile I see her everyday for 3+4 hours at her house, everytime I ask her out she accepts ( been at her house for 4 consecutives days until 10pm/midnight/whatever ). Yesterday she worked until 10:30pm and she said that even though she would be very tired she wanted to do something with me, we have alot of fun together and it's closer than just a normal friendship and she says she doesn't like her life the way it is (not in a suicide/emo way)
Here's my question: Imagine you have a boyfriend that you see about 10-12 hours a week, you tell a guy you don't really things are going right now, you always want to see a guy and accepts his invitation everytime, even if you're tired. From monday to friday and even the week-ends. Would it be a subtel hint that you're interested in him?
Everybody tells me yes (typing it doesn't give it justice because you can't really know how's our relation together), so I ask you stranger girls. And yes, we do hugs and I'm on her bed for hours everytime.

I was once very close with one person. But... as time goes by, now we're not close anymore, and when we pass each other at school, we don't even say hi or something. We rarely talk and I miss that person now. I want to have that close relation we once had. I just don't know how... Well I once betrayed him by sorta dating his ex, but we still talked a lot since then.
